SUFFOLK HAY

Multi-purpose building is fit for the job...

A. C Bacon has provided the ideal solution for Suffolk farmer, Adrian Keitley-Webb. Adrian runs the Suffolk Hay Company as well as a horse breeding business and a small beef enterprise, and his newly constructed farm building has been designed to serve all three businesses.

Now in full use, the building has been designed to store hay, as well as to provide housing for beef cattle and horses. The building design features a large open barn at the back for the hay store and two livestock pens at the front. The building’s large apex allows lorries collecting the hay to remain undercover whilst being loaded, and to turn around in plenty of space. The easy-access pens for the livestock are easy to clean and provide flexibility for the different parts of Adrian’s business.

Building appearance was a key consideration for Adrian and he worked closely with us to ensure the overall design worked with older timber-framed buildings on the family farm. He was also keen the building blended with the environment and materials were chosen to merge with the landscape. Marley Eternit Profile 6 fibre-cement roof sheeting was used alongside weather-boarding and profiled metal wall cladding. Fibre-cement roof sheets benefit the livestock, with less condensation providing a much drier, and therefore higher welfare environment, for the cattle and horses. The density of fibre cement material also minimises reverberation, helping reduce animal distress.
