Two new buildings completed at Sandringham…

A.C. Bacon Engineering has completed two new buildings at the Royal Studs Commodore Yard, Sandringham.

An American Barn and Stables were commissioned as replacements for a range of existing timber structures, which also included a Tack Room, Vets Room, Feed Store and Mess Room. The main objective for the new buildings was to provide good ventilation, natural lighting and a spacious environment for the horses, plus a modern layout and facilities to benefit the running of the stud. The materials used externally were considered for ease of future maintenance, in keeping with the rural and stud setting, whilst being sympathetic to the existing environment.

Joe Grimwade, Manager of The Royal Studs, confirmed that “the project involved several local contractors and required careful planning and co-operation to ensure completion within a tight timescale. There was a particular desire to minimise environmental impact - both in terms of the visual impact of the new buildings and with regard to Carbon footprint.

Bacon's completed the erection of two steel frames, roofing and cladding with great efficiency and within the time schedule. They were particularly co-operative both in working with the other contractors as well as in ensuring that unplanned detail requirements were completed quickly and efficiently.

The project is now completed and has provided an excellent facility with stabling for 20 horses, staff room, feed store and veterinary examination area. The buildings are particularly attractive and fit comfortably into their environment; the construction process and end result have surpassed my expectations.”
