Planning a Grain Store

Time is running out...

With March 2014 on its way out, it is vital that immediate action is taken to ensure completion of your grain storage facility prior to Harvest.

Not only does A C Bacon Engineering Ltd undertake new build projects, we have the expertise to complete alterations and extensions to existing stores ensuring that they function how you want them to.

Paul Hancock of Alethorpe, Little Snoring acquired an A C Bacon grain store in 1998 when he purchased the land at Alethorpe Hall. In 2005, A C Bacon were entrusted to carry out modifications to transform the front of this store, when it was converted from a dump store to a drying store complete with timber floor and central tunnel, achieving its current appearance.

In October 2012 planning permission was granted for a replica store extending off the side of the original building. As the floor area of the building was less than 465m2 (5000 sq ft) the application could be determined under permitted development and as such the decision was through in 28 days.

Mr Hancock again employed A C Bacon; working closely in conjunction with Bennett & Co Crop Storage Engineering Ltd to deliver his project on time and budget.

In January 2013 A C Bacon commenced work, undertaking site drilling to existing columns, casting of foundations, erecting steelwork (24m long x 19.3m wide x 5.7m eaves), fixing Marley Eternit fibre cement roof sheeting, Olive Green wall cladding plus galvanised grain walling. The front elevation was partially clad lapping brickwork on either side of two 5.2m wide x 5.5m high roller shutter doors and central personnel access door to match the existing. The Grain Store was then fitted with central grain tunnel, timber drying floor and external blockwork fan house.

Mr Hancock has now been using the building for a season. He commented "the decision to seek planning permission early ensured that there was sufficient time for the project to be completed without having to panic! I see the building as an investment and I am extremely pleased with the results".
