King’s Lynn Academy completed…

A C Bacon Engineering Limited has completed the Structural Steelwork package for Balfour Beatty Construction Limited. The scope of works included supply & installation of 135 tonnes of Structural Steelwork plus Concrete Staircases and Edge Protection.

Part of the works required a large Central Hub linking the two existing wings of the school. The Hub will have new state of the art teaching and learning facilities; with a heavy emphasis on ICT along with large open areas with multiple purposes. The investment is aimed to further improve the Academy’s specialisms in mathematics and business & enterprise.

King’s Lynn Academy which is sponsored by the College of West Anglia and Norfolk County Council is currently undergoing £10.5 million worth of redevelopment which once complete in September 2013 will see an increase from 650 to 1100 students.

During erection of the Structural Steelwork, one of the steel beams was signed by present and past pupils including local radio presenter Adam Newstead of KL FM (see photo below).

This project was the first time Balfour Beatty and A. C. Bacon had worked together, BB confirmed that “A. C. Bacon have delivered a quality product”.
