By appointment to her majesty the queen - manufacturer of steel framed buildings A.C Bacon Engineering Ltd

Building new memories in Hadleigh

Out with the old and in with the new...

In October 2014, Challs International Ltd (a manufacturer of cleaning products for over 25 years) was caught ablaze at 5:50pm, causing £1 million in damages and destroying the company’s warehouse in the process.  Seventy firefighters were called upon to tackle the fire but to no avail. They couldn’t save what was left of the structure. The blaze broke out in the roof of the warehouse where all the cleaning products were stored but what started the fire is still under investigation.

A.C. Bacon were contacted by Mixbrow Construction in February 2016, to supply & erect 105 tonnes of hot-rolled steel and install 3578m² of cladding for two new structures. One industrial unit/warehouse to replace the old one and a new office block for the employees at Challs.

Unit 44 – Built to function as an industrial unit, unit 44 was constructed as a portal frame. The steelwork had a light grey epoxy zinc finish. The unit was kitted out with 115mm thick roof cladding/ 80mm thick & 150mm thick composite wall cladding. Due to the tragic events of October 2014, it was important that we chose the right cladding for the customer. Cladding that could withstand certain temperatures if such a disaster were to occur again.

Unit 46 (Headquarters) – Was part constructed to accommodate office staff and work as a manufacturing facility. Unit 46 required its existing sheets that were on the adjoining building to be removed and replaced with new panels. The building was installed with 115mm thick roof cladding and 150mm thick wall cladding.

Mixbrow Construction Ltd are a main contractor based in Needham Market, Ipswich. It was a pleasure working with them and we look forward to completing more projects with them in the future.
