Preparing for Harvest 2017

Seeing double...

A.C. Bacon Engineering have completed the build of a new Grain Store in Buntingford (near Royston) ready for the 2017 harvest.

The Grain Store is a replica of a previous store built for the customer back in early 2013.

A.C. Bacon supplied, installed and erected the 24m span x 42m long x 7m height to eaves building consisting of:

  • 36 tonnes of galvanised hot-rolled steel
  • 2No. 5.5m x 5.5m roller shutter doors
  • 1No. personnel door
  • 428 metres sq of Pre-stressed concrete wall panels
  • 1044 metres sq of Fibre cement, Raven (blue) roof cladding
  • 571 metres sq of Single skin metal sheeting, Merlin Grey
  • PVC rainwater goods
  • 1No. curved intake cowl and 4No. curved exhaust cowls

Although the unit looks identical to its predecessor, an upgrade to its design was required to coincide with the introduction of CE marking. The Construction Product Regulation (CPR) required the CE marking of all construction products from 1 July 2013 and the CE marking of fabricated structural steelwork from 1 July 2014.

Works commenced on site at the beginning of March 2017 and was completed a couple months later ready for the 2017 harvest.

The completion of the project being on time and on budget has led to another satisfied customer. Having worked together previously the customer was confident that we would perform and deliver another high-quality product.
